LET MENTAL HEALTH TAKE CENTER STAGE

As the world adjusts to the new normal, mental health programs are paving the way for compassionate dealing with the crisis while offering the much needed support.

The pandemic has brought mental health from the shadows to the forefront and rightfully so. With a vast majority of the population struggling with some form of mental stress or illness, it has become imperative to prioritize one’s health and wellbeing above all else to survive.

“From dinner table conversations to workplace communities, people are coming forward to support and de-stigmatize mental health talks and adjust to the new normal.”

Talk It Out

The first step is always the hardest, and if you are struggling with a mental issue, you can start small by trying to talk about it. Being able to express your emotions to a person you confide in, be it a therapist, a friend, family member or colleague, is extremely helpful and a critical step on the way to self-recovery.

Meditate

Finding even a few minutes to simply pause and take a breath can be just what you need to get you through the day. The technique is not important. Just close your eyes and let the thoughts flow. Don’t be tempted to shut down your feelings or emotions. Allow yourself to focus on your breathing and slowly you will start to feel the difference.

Self-care Resources

Whether you work for an organization or are self-employed, trying to find the balance between office and home hours while working remotely is important. Many resources and programs are available that can help manage your mental health and avoid burn-out through activities like- no meeting days, online learning, sessions for positive mental health, starting the day with self-affirmations and more.

Healthy Lifestyle

Mental health is greatly impacted with the lifestyle choices we make everyday. Weight gain, fatigue, poor eating habits are great contributors to feeling stressed and low self-esteem. Start with making better lifestyle choices like- healthier foods, any form of physical stimulation like walk, yoga, exercise or dance, dressing up for the day or sparing a little time for a hobby.

When people are treated with love and respect, they thrive. And the first step towards that is learning to love yourself. Find what works best for you, seek help and take your time to heal.
